Seminar: Hot Topics in Software & Systems Engineering (formerly "SE for AI")

Important information

The seminar is/was listed in KLIPS under the title "Software Engineering for AI". With the change of title, we intend to broaden the scope a bit. SE for AI is still a hot topic in SE and may be considered in the seminar as well.

When and where?

The first seminar meeting will be on Thursday, 13.10.22 from 10:00 - 12:30 in room 1.421, Sibille-Hartmann-Str. 2-8, 1st floor

Course content

The development of good and successful software requires more than just programming knowledge. Software engineering deals with the systematic use of principles, methods, and tools for the division of labor, engineering development, and application of extensive software systems.

In the seminar, we will explore current and hot topics in Software and Systems Engineering. Students will learn more about the research community, current research trends, and applied research methods. Additionally, the students will gain knowledge about effective literature search, scientific writing, and scientific reviewing.

Potential topic areas for the winter term 2022/23 are:

  • Software Engineering for AI
    • An empirical study on analysis of adaptation of the design patterns in ML systems among ML practitioner and researcher
  • Software Engineering for Explainable Systems
  • Data-Driven Analysis of User Interaction in Intelligent Vehicle Information Systems (IVIS)
    • How intelligent are intelligent IVIS really? How to define "Intelligence"? What do Manufacturers claim?
    • In what kind of systems (ADAS, Infotainment, etc) are machine learning-based methods really used?
  • Static Code Analysis
    • Analyzing code for security issues
  • Software Architecture
    • Adaptation techniques in Self-Adaptive Systems.
  • Software Processes
    • Metrics to measure development team performance.
    • Agile techniques in Product Line Engineering.

This seminar is aimed at students who have previous knowledge of software engineering and who are interested in cutting-edge research topics.

Registration and size limit

You can register for the seminar via KLIPS.
Due to the close supervision, the seminar is currently limited to 15 participants.

Workload

The seminar is designed for  2 SWS and is worth  6 ECTS points.

Schedule

The seminar is held every Thursday from 10:00 - 11:30 . The additional material and exercises will be updated throughout the semester.
